POSITION: Systems Administrator

Description of Work:
 
The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for all aspects of system administration for the Tribe, including servers, applications, and databases. This includes implementation, configuration, coordination, control, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage monitoring and the development of specialized system procedures within the organization.
 
The Candidate position will proactively monitor the hardware, software, and application components of the mission-critical systems and servers to allow for 24x7 operations. Identify and respond to faults and performance degradations as quickly as possible. Monitor the servers for security breaches, identify and resolve security-related events, and follow security escalation procedures. Also, support desktop operations as requested. Candidate will also record information into the Help Desk application for tracking, analyzing and reporting functions.
 
Candidate will be interacting with a broad range of users and as such will require strong communication skills.
 
Essential Functions:
This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single candidate.

§         Performs basic systems security administration functions, including creating customer profiles and accounts

§         Monitors and manages system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain operating efficiency

§         Writes or modifies basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate systems administration tasks

§         Maintains system documentation and logs

§         Performs or assists in troubleshooting and diagnosing production problems; corrects identified problems

§         Performs systems administration functions for the District wide e-mail system

§         Maintain application security, event investigations and compliance enforcement. Review personnel conduct in relation to data protection

§         Administer secure links with public key encryption, anti-virus, user authentication and intrusion detection

§         Provide monitoring and primary response and intervention for information technology related security incidents and violations.

§         Manage and support secure Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

§         Document LAN network related policies and procedures including security.

§         Implement and maintain HIPAA requirements.

§         Keep current with new Information Technology Security protocols, applicable laws and regulations.

§         Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer
Science or related fields, or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities. A Master’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related field is highly desirable
 
Experience:
2 or more years experience as a Systems Administrator
2+ years of server hardware knowledge and experience
2+ years of backup and recovery procedures
2+ years of Administration on Intel-based systems
2+ years of Hardware Implementation and support
2+ years of supporting production systems in a 24x7 operating environment
2+ years experience with networking technologies such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, and LAN/WAN/MAN
 
Must pass Pre-hire Drug Screening
 
Certifications:
Preferred: MCSE or equivalent experience
